10-Ways to Protect Your Akita

Whether you are taking your canine to the park or letting him run freely in the park, your akita�s safety is precious.



The Papillon is a small dog breed with distinctive large, fringed ears that earned it its name, the French word for butterfly. The Papillon is believed to be one of the oldest of the toy breeds.


Use the following tips to protect your akita from loss, injury or illness.



Alaskan Malamutes are known for being friendly and loyal. In fact, Chewbacca, the hairy Wookiee in the Star Wars movies and the name of the character of indiana Jones were both inspired by George Lucas' loyal dog Indiana, an Alaskan Malamute.


Always place a DOG tag or some type of identification on your akita. Micro chipping is the perfect ID alternative. Microchips are implanted into the skin of the neck. They can be scanned to help identify your akita's information.



The first living being to travel in space was a small mixed breed dog named Laika, who gave her life orbiting the earth in the Russian Sputnik in 1957. John F. Kennedy's terrier, Charlie, sired 4 puppies with Laika's daughter, Pushinka.


1. Unless you are in an enclosed or gated area, keep akitas on a leash. As an added ounce of prevention, check fences to ensure they are securely locked.



The German Shepherd Dog is also known as the Alsatian, or Deutsche Schaferhund. Rin Tin Tin, probably the most famous American German Shepherd, was actually born in France in September of 1918 and then brought to America later.


2. To prevent your canine from drinking stagnant, contaminant water, carry either a sport bottle or a bowl with water



Inbreeding causes about 3 out of every 10 dalmations suffer from some sort of hearing loss. The good news is that, like deaf people, they can easily be taught to recognize words in sign language and still make excellent companions.


3. At the park, before you allow your pooch to run freely with other DOGS, replace training collars (pinch or choke) with an identifying buckle collar. Since, training colors can wreak havoc on other canines, it�s a good idea to switch over your akita�s collar



The oldest pure-bred British dog is said to be the Corgi. Their proof of existence has been traced back to dogs brought to Wales by the Celts from the Black Sea around 1200 BC.


4. To get your akita acclimated and warmed up for its walk, be sure to take brisk strides and a moderate jog before you release him from with other canines.



Newfoundlands have webbed feet, just like ducks. They also have extremely water-proof fur. Those features, as well as their great strength, loyalty and willingness to learn, make newfies great candidates to work as water rescue dogs.


5. Keep a watchful eye on your akita during any rumbling and tumbling. It is when most accidents occur.



Chinese Crested dogs are often considered to be so ugly that they are cute. They often win ugly dog contests. They are odd looking, mostly hairless dogs. They are also the only breed of dog that is capable of getting acne.


6. Prohibit your akita from associating with overly aggressive canines

7. Familiarize yourself with the rules, ordinances of your neighborhood. Contact your local municipal�s village hall.



Basset hounds are fabulous at hunting and they make wonderful companion dogs. However, even with those great qualities, basset hounds are horrible swimmers! Their legs are simply too small to keep their heavy, long bodies afloat properly.


8. Confirm which parks are for DOGS and the hours of the venue.



St. bernards have a well-deserved reputation as rescue dogs. In fact, the most successful mountain rescue dog ever was a st. bernard. His name was Barry. He lived during the early 1800's, during which time he saved 40 lives.


9. Always, always tote a duty bag to clean up after your akita.



The smallest breed of dog recognized by the American Kennel Club is the Chihuahua, which stands six to nine inches at the top of the shoulders and generally weighs two to six pounds. Their size makes them excellent travel companions.


10. To prevent the spread of any worms, parasites or the chances of you our your akita stepping in other DOG'S fecal matter, request other DOG owners to tidy up after their canine.



The Japanese Chin, also known as the Japanese Spaniel, is considered to be one of the most cat-like of the dog breeds when it comes to attitude. It is alert, intelligent, and often independent. Also, like a cat, it uses its paws to wash its face.
