Akita Halloween Costume Do's and Dont's

Halloween is an enchanting day where even akitas can join in the fun. Despite the festivities of the day, keeping a canine safe is mission critical. Use the following safety precautions to assure the safety of your akita:

The German Shepherd Dog is also known as the Alsatian, or Deutsche Schaferhund. Rin Tin Tin, probably the most famous American German Shepherd, was actually born in France in September of 1918 and then brought to America later.

If your akita must wear a costume, use the following tips in its Halloween attire:

Originating in Germany, the name Affenpinscher means, "monkey-like terrier". However, in France the breed is described as the "Diablotin Moustachu" or "moustached little devil". Both describe the appearance and attitude of this delightful breed.

Opt for safe and annoying free costumes that allow for easy movement A costume should not inhibit your akita's ability to breathe and bark The costume should not obstructs his or her vision Dogs should never be left without supervision in a costume

The diminutive tibetan spaniel, with his feather-like tail, may look a bit like other spaniels, but the breed is actually not a spaniel at all, but more closely related to some combination of the shih tzu, pug, pekingese and Japanese chin.

Always monitor your akita for bitten pieces of the costume that may trigger choking (in example: buttons, elastic, paper rubber bands, or other materials) Affix reflective tape onto akita's costume if you will be out after dark Never leave your akita unsupervised in a costume.

Schipperke is Flemmish for "little captain" and the name is appropriate because most schipperkes seem to act almost human. they are happy, intelligent and usually enjoy being the center of the universe around them.

As cute as the idea of taking your akita to trick or treat with the family may be, the event can trigger anxiety or fear. To avoid any potential negative encounters, keep a leash on him and be mindful of anything they try to eat during the Halloween stroll. To minimize any anxiety or fear in your akita, keep pets away of boisterous children and walk them before the Halloween festivities get underway

The Giant Schnauzer is known in german as "Riesenschnauzer", meaning "the giant". It should closely resemble the other Schnauzers, miniature and standard. However, they are really completely unique and unrelated breeds. They have just developed in such a way, over time, that they look similar to each other.

The most socially oriented akitas may not be ready for the entourage of children during trick-or-treating hours. To prevent any unforeseen situations, keep your akita in a separate room. For starters, the rampant traffic of strangers may overwhelm a akita. Not to mention, some children are afraid of DOGS and other pets. Finally, if your akita breaks free, make sure he or she is wearing a collar with an ID tag or other proper identification.

German shepherd dogs are great working dogs. They are often used as police dogs, rescue dogs and guides for the blind. In fact, one of them, a guide dog named Orient, once led a blind hiker the entire 2100 mile length of the Appalachian Trail.
