Should I Take My Akita to Obedience Classes?

Whether or not you should take your akita to an obedience class depends greatly on you and on your akita. Before you decide, there are a few things you should know.



Inbreeding causes about 3 out of every 10 dalmations suffer from some sort of hearing loss. The good news is that, like deaf people, they can easily be taught to recognize words in sign language and still make excellent companions.


First, there are many differences between a akita obedience class instructor and a akita trainer. A akita trainer is a person who is trained to teach your akita to do certain specific things in a one-on-one situation. An obedience class instructor, on the other hand, is a person who specializes in teaching you how to better train your own akita to do whatever you want it to do.



Lhasa Apsos are small, long-haired dogs. Believe it or not, they were originally used by monks to guard temples. This accounts for their quiet and friendly nature, which can easily change if their owners or home are threatened.


Another important thing that you should keep in mind about akita obedience class is that there will be several DOGS and owners there. Also, you may want to find a class that is specifically for akitas that are the same size or age as yours. A small akita might not benefit from a class where the other DOGS are larger, just as a large DOG may not benefit from a class full of small DOGS.



Beagles are known to be extremely social and cheerful dogs. They are expected to be so friendly that, even in dog shows, the judges expect them to be happy. They have points removed in the judging if they look to be unhappy.


When you think you've found a class, meet with the instructor. Don't be afraid to ask questions and, if possible, observe a class or two before enrolling. You may also want to ask the instructor if your entire family is welcome in the class. If space permits, most good instructors will not only agree to that, they'll usually recommend it.



Schipperke is Flemmish for "little captain" and the name is appropriate because most schipperkes seem to act almost human. they are happy, intelligent and usually enjoy being the center of the universe around them.
